Dutch apple cake
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1/4 c
- cinnamon - 1 tsp
- milk - 1 c
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- flour - 2 c
- butter - 3 Tbsp
- cornstarch
- baking powder - 3 tsp
- pinch of salt - 1 item
- shortening - 3 Tbsp
- hot water - 1 c
- apples, peeled, cored and sliced - 1 item
- vanilla or 1/2 tsp - 1/2 tsp
- half and half optional - 1 item
How to make dutch apple cake:
Hot Sauce:3/4 c. sugar pinch of salt1 1/2 Tbsp. cornstarch1 c. hot water3 Tbsp. butter1/2 tsp. vanilla or 1/2 tsp. lemon extract and 1/2 tsp. nutmeg half and half (optional) In a bowl, mix together flour, baking powder and salt. Cut in shortening. Stir in milk. Pour into a 9 x 12-inch greased and floured cake pan. Place apple wedges over batter. Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar which have been mixed together. Bake in a preheated 350° oven for 30 minutes.Hot Sauce: In saucepan, combine 3/4 cup sugar, salt, cornstarch and water. Cook until clear and thick, stirring to prevent scorching. Remove from heat and add butter and either vanilla or lemon extract and nutmeg. May pour half and half over also, if desired.
