Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 1/2 c
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • flour
  • water - 4 Tbsp
  • shortening - 1/2 c
  • powdered sugar
  • yeast - 2 pkg
  • lukewarm water - 1/2 c
  • scalded milk
  • well beaten eggs - 2 item

How to make doughnuts:

Icing:3 c. powdered sugar4 Tbsp. water Add shortening, salt and sugar to milk and cool to lukewarm. Add yeast to water and dissolve. Add eggs and yeast to milk mixture. Mix well. Add flour. Mix to a soft dough and let rise until doubled in bulk (about 1 hour). Work down.

Roll 1/2-inch thick on lightly floured surface. Cut with doughnut cutter, place on floured surface 2 inches apart and let rise about 45 minutes. Fry in deep hot fat (375°) until light brown. Dip while still hot in icing. Makes 5 dozen.
