Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 1 c
  • vanilla extract - 1 tsp
  • salt - 1/4 tsp
  • chopped nuts - 1/3 c
  • flour
  • baking soda - 1/4 tsp
  • egg whites - 3 item
  • margarine - 2 Tbsp
  • 12 oz - 2 c
  • applesauce unsweetened - 1/2 c

How to make double chocolate chip brownies:

Preheat oven to 350°. Melt 1 cup chocolate chips, sugar, applesauce and margarine in large heavy saucepan over low heat, stirring until smooth. Remove from heat. Add egg whites; stir well. Stir in flour, baking soda, salt and vanilla. Stir in remaining chocolate chips and nuts. Spread into greased 13 x 9-inch baking pan. Bake for 16 to 20 minutes, or just until set. For fudgier brownies, bake to minimum baking time. Cool completely. Makes 24 brownies. Each contains 7 grams of fat versus 11 grams in traditional recipe.
