  • sugar - 3 c
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • cold water - 1/2 c
  • egg whites - 2 item
  • light Karo syrup - 1/2 c

How to make divinity fudge:

Place sugar, syrup and water in a saucepan over slow fire. Stir only until sugar is dissolved, then cook until a little tried in cold water forms a soft ball.

Beat egg whites until stiff. Continue beating and pour one-half of syrup slowly over the beaten egg whites. Continue beating while cooking the rest of the syrup until it forms a hard ball when tried in cold water and cracks when hit against side of cup. Add this syrup gradually to the syrup and egg mixture. While you are beating, add vanilla and continue beating until candy is thick enough to drop from a spoon onto wax paper.

Nuts can be added, if desired, just before candy is ready to be spooned.

Do not do this recipe on a rainy or humid day.
