Dill pickles
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 2 Tbsp
- salt - 2 Tbsp
- water - 1 c
- vinegar - 1 c
- alum - 1 item
- dill - 1 item
- garlic - 1 item
How to make dill pickles:
Wash and pack cucumbers in jars with a head of dill and 1 or 2 cloves of garlic at bottom and same on top, plus a dash of alum. Mix vinegar, sugar, salt and water together, bring to a boil and pour over cucumbers. Seal.To Cure: Bring canner of water to boil and remove from heat. Put jars into it and let set until water has turned cold. Remove.
Double recipe makes 3 1/2 quarts.
