  • pkg - 1 oz
  • water - 1/2 c
  • vinegar - 1/4 c
  • cooking oil - 1 2
  • dry mustard - 1 tsp
  • pepper - 1/4 tsp
  • ketchup - 1/2 c
  • large onion, chopped - 1 item
  • toast points or cooked rice optional - 1 item

How to make depression casserole:

In a saucepan, saute onion in oil until tender. Stir in ketchup, water, vinegar, mustard and pepper. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally. Place frankfurters in a 1-quart baking dish. Pour sauce over. Bake, uncovered, at 375° for 30 minutes or until bubbly. If desired, serve over toast points or rice. Yield: 5 servings.
