Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 2 c
  • vanilla extract - 1 tsp
  • semi-sweet chocolate chips - 3/4 c
  • butter
  • eggs, separated - 2 item
  • dairy sour cream - 1/2 c
  • baking powder - 1 tsp
  • baking soda - 1 tsp
  • boiling water - 1 c
  • heavy cream - 6 Tbsp
  • unsweetened chocolate - 3 oz
  • sifted confectioners sugar
  • sweet butter - 8 Tbsp
  • less 2 Tbsp - 2 c

How to make decadent chocolate cake:

Frosting:2 Tbsp. butter3/4 c. semi-sweet chocolate chips6 Tbsp. heavy cream1 1/4 c. sifted confectioners sugar1 tsp. vanilla extract Preheat oven to 350°. Grease a 10-inch tube pan. Pour boiling water over chocolate and butter. Let stand until melted. Stir in vanilla and sugar. Then whisk in egg yolks, blending well.

Mix baking soda and sour cream. Whisk into chocolate mixture. Sift flour and baking powder. Add to batter.

Beat egg whites until stiff but not dry. Stir a quarter of egg whites thoroughly into batter. Scoop remaining egg whites on top of batter and gently fold together. Pour into prepared pan. Bake on middle rack for 40 to 50 minutes.

Place all five ingredients for frosting in a saucepan over low heat. Whisk until smooth. Cool slightly and then spread on cooled cake.
