  • flour, sifted
  • granulated sugar - 1/3 c
  • butter or margarine - 1/2 c
  • Pack into 9-inch greased pan and bake at 350° for about 20 minutes

  • baking powder - 1 tsp
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • nutmeg - 1/4 tsp

  • pitted dates, snipped or chopped - 1 (8

How to make date walnut double decker:

Combine and blend to fine crumbs. Pack into 9-inch greased pan and bake at 350° for about 20 minutes.Top Layer:1/3 c. light brown sugar, packed1/3 c. granulated sugar2 eggs1 tsp. vanilla2 Tbsp. flour1 tsp. baking powder1/2 tsp. salt1/4 tsp. nutmeg powdered sugar1 c. chopped walnuts1 (8 oz.) pitted dates, snipped or chopped Combine the sugar, eggs and vanilla and beat well. Sift flour with baking powder, salt and nutmeg and add to first mixture.

Top Layer: Stir in walnuts and dates. Turn batter into pan over hot baked pastry layer. Bake at 350° about 20 minutes longer. Cool in pan; sprinkle with powdered sugar. Cut into bars. Makes 18 bar cookies about 2 3/4 x 1 3/8-inch.
