Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1/2 c
- cinnamon - 1 tsp
- salt - 1/4 tsp
- flour
- brown sugar - 1 c
- butter - 1 c
- water - 1/2 c
- soda - 1 tsp
- white sugar - 1 c
- Add sifted dry ingredients and mix
How to make date filled cookies:
Cream sugar and shortening and add beaten egg and beat again. Add sifted dry ingredients and mix. Roll dough out in a sheet 1/2-inch thick.Filling:1 lb. dates, cut fine1/2 c. sugar1/2 c. water Cook dates, water and sugar until a thick paste is formed. Cool and add 1 cup chopped nuts. Spread on cookie dough and roll up like a jelly roll. Chill overnight. Next morning, cut in slices and bake. Be sure to let filling cool. Can make filling ahead of time.
