  • sugar
  • eggs - 2 item
  • vanilla - 1/2 tsp
  • milk - 1/4 c
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • flour - 2 c
  • brown sugar - 1 c
  • soda - 2 tsp
  • boiling water - 2 c
  • dates, cut up - 1 lb
  • nuts, cut up - 1/2 c
  • butter heaping - 3 tsp
  • Pour boiling water over dates, then add soda and cool

How to make date cake:

Cream together butter, sugar and eggs. Pour boiling water over dates, then add soda and cool. Add date mixture alternately with flour. Bake at 325° for 40 or 50 minutes. Top with Caramel Frosting.Caramel Frosting:1/2 c. butter1/4 c. milk1 c. brown sugar1/2 tsp. salt1/2 tsp. vanilla Cook butter and brown sugar slowly for 2 minutes. Add the milk and bring to a full boil. Add salt and vanilla. Beat in powdered sugar (sifted).
