Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1/3 c
- milk - 2 c
- vanilla extract - 1 tsp
- salt - 1/8 tsp
- egg yolks - 4 item
How to make custard sauce:
Time: about 25 minutes before serving or early in day. Yield: about 2 1/4 cups.In heavy 2-quart saucepan over low heat, or in double boiler over hot, not boiling, water, with wire whisk, beat egg yolks, sugar and salt. Gradually stir in milk and cook, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens and coats back of a spoon, about 25 minutes. Stir in vanilla extract.
Serve sauce warm or cold over apple pie, fruitcake, cut up fruit or ice cream. Contains 90 calories per 1/4 cup. Low in sodium.
