Crisp bread and butter pickles
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 5 c
- salt - 1/3 c
- vinegar - 3 c
- cloves garlic - 3 item
- celery seed
- mustard seed - 2 Tbsp
- green peppers, chopped - 2 item
- turmeric powder
- sliced cucumbers - 4 qt
- medium sliced onions - 6 item
How to make crisp bread and butter pickles:
Do not pare cucumbers; slice. Add onions, peppers and garlic, if desired. Add salt; cover with cracked ice. Mix thoroughly; let stand 3 hours. Drain well. Combine remaining ingredients. Pour over cucumber mixture; heat just to boil. Seal in hot, sterilized jars. Makes about 8 pints.Recipe categories: Weeknight, Vegetables, Canning.
