Ingredients/Components

  • chopped onion - 3/4 c
  • chopped celery - 1/2 c
  • chopped green pepper - 1/4 c
  • garlic cloves, minced - 2 item
  • butter or oleo - 2 Tbsp
  • cubed fully cooked ham - 2 c
  • can tomatoes with liquid, cut up - 1 oz
  • can condensed beef broth - 1 1/2
  • uncooked long grain white rice - 1 c
  • water - 1 c
  • sugar - 1 tsp
  • dried thyme - 1 tsp
  • chili powder - 1/2 tsp
  • pepper - 1/4 tsp
  • fresh or frozen uncooked shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • chopped fresh parsley - 1 Tbsp

How to make creole jambalaya:

In a Dutch oven, saute onion, celery, green pepper and garlic in butter until tender. Add next 9 ingredients. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat. Cover and simmer until rice is tender, about 25 minutes. Add shrimp and parsley. Simmer uncovered until shrimp are cooked, 7 to 10 minutes. Yields 8 servings.
