Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 1 c
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • chopped nuts - 1/2 c
  • soda - 1/2 tsp
  • baking powder
  • sifted flour - 2 c
  • hot water - 2 Tbsp
  • egg, beaten - 1 item
  • orange juice - 1/2 c
  • melted shortening - 2 Tbsp
  • cranberries, cut in half - 1 c

How to make cranberry bread:

Sift first 5 dry ingredients together. Beat egg and add shortening, orange juice and hot water. Combine with dry ingredients. Add nuts and cranberries. Bake 1 hour and 10 minutes at 325°. Brush bread with butter; wrap in waxed paper while hot and place in refrigerator for 3 hours. Remove paper; wrap in towel and put back in refrigerator.
