Country breakfast casserole
Ingredients/Components
- milk - 1/2 c
- water - 1 c
- eggs, lightly beaten - 6 item
- shredded cheddar cheese - 2 c
- Paprika - 1 item
- slices bread, crust removed - 6 item
- sausage, regular or reduced fat - 1 roll
- gravy mix country or sausage - 1 pkg
- melted butter, optional - 2 Tbsp
How to make country breakfast casserole:
In a large skillet, cook crumbled sausage over medium heat until brown, stirring occasionally. Remove sausage and drain on paper towel. Spread sausage over bottom of a lightly greased 11 x 8-inch baking dish. Cut bread into 1-inch cubes. Set aside.Whisk together eggs, water, milk and gravy mix. Sprinkle cheese over sausage. Pour mixture over cheese. Arrange bread cubes evenly over mixture. If desired, drizzle butter over bread. Sprinkle with paprika.
Bake at 325°, uncovered, 40 minutes or until knife inserted in the center comes out clean. Or, cover and refrigerate overnight. Bake 50 minutes, uncovered. Remove from oven and let stand 10 minutes before serving.
