Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 2 c
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- milk - 1 c
- shortening - 1 c
- self-rising flour - 3 c
- whole eggs - 3 item
- water or milk - 1 c
- chunk of butter - 1 item
- Add flour and milk alternately at low speed
How to make cottage pudding:
Beat the sugar, shortening, eggs and vanilla at high speed for about 3 minutes. Add flour and milk alternately at low speed. Bake at 350° for 30 to 35 minutes or until done. This is good baked in a large iron skillet. The recipe can be cut in half. When you get ready to serve, use the sauce when you cut into wedges.Sauce:1 c. sugar1 tsp. vanilla1 c. water or milk chunk of butter Heat and serve while warm over the cake.Wilma sends her recipe with 1/2 cup of each and suggests that it can be poured over pound cake or devil's food cake. She calls hers Poor Man's Cake.
