Ingredients/Components

  • salt - 1 tsp
  • melted margarine - 1/2 c
  • chopped celery
  • cans chicken broth - 2 1/2
  • chopped onions - 3/4 1
  • poultry seasoning - 1 tsp
  • cooked cornbread - 4 c
  • small amount black pepper - 1 item
  • eggs or 6 egg whites - 3 item
  • day old loaf bread or hamburger buns, crumbled - 4 c

How to make cornbread dressing:

Saute onions and celery in margarine until color changes. Put crumbled cornbread and other bread in large mixing bowl. Add onions, celery, eggs and seasonings. Mix. Add chicken broth; mix well. Spray a 2-quart baking dish with Pam. Add mixture. Cook at 350° for about 30 minutes, or until mixture begins to brown. Serves 6 to 8.

Hint: Bread crumbs, celery and onions can be prepared ahead of time and frozen, or to freeze prepared dressing, cook for 20 minutes, cool, wrap well and freeze. Thaw when needed and finish cooking.
