  • corn meal - 2 c
  • brown sugar - 2 Tbsp
  • white sugar - 2 Tbsp
  • baking soda
  • eggs - 4 item
  • flour all-purpose - 2 c
  • baking powder - 2 tsp
  • melted shortening - 1/2 c
  • buttermilk - 3 c
  • salt - 2 tsp

How to make corn bread:

Measure and sift (optional) mix together the flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Add cornmeal. In separate bowl, mix together the shortening, sugars, eggs and buttermilk. Add wet ingredients to the dry ingredients. Beat only until smooth. Fill well oiled shallow pan 2/3 full (9 x 13 x 2-inch pan). Bake in hot oven (400° to 450°) for 25 to 30 minutes. Various ovens may vary in cooking times.
