Ingredients/Components

  • salt - 1 tsp
  • brown sugar - 1 Tbsp
  • oil - 1 Tbsp
  • buttermilk - 2 c
  • baking powder - 1 tsp
  • baking soda - 1/2 tsp
  • cornmeal - 2 c
  • wheat germ - 1/2 c
  • large egg, beaten - 1 item

How to make corn bread:

Preheat oven to 425°. In large bowl, stir together the dry ingredients. Combine the two just until they are mixed well. Turn into an 8 x 8-inch baking pan, well-greased. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes.

More buttermilk makes a moister version.

Another egg produces a more tender crumb.

A little more oil extends keeping qualities.
