  • flour - 1 c
  • sugar - 1/4 c
  • baking powder - 4 tsp
  • salt - 3/4 tsp
  • yellow cornmeal - 1 c
  • eggs - 2 item
  • milk - 1 c
  • shortening - 1/4 c

How to make corn bread:

Sift flour with sugar, baking powder and salt. Stir in cornmeal. Add eggs, milk and shortening. Beat with rotary or electric beater until just smooth. Pour into greased 9 x 9 x 2-inch pan or 10-inch iron skillet. Bake at 425° for 20 to 25 minutes.
