Ingredients/Components

  • lean ground beef or more - 1/2 lb
  • hot dogs - 1 item
  • buns - 1 item
  • vinegar or less - 3 Tbsp
  • Worcestershire sauce - 2 Tbsp
  • sugar - 1 Tbsp
  • chili powder - 1 tsp
  • paprika - 1 tsp
  • pepper - 1/4 tsp
  • salt optional - 1/2 tsp
  • catsup - 3/4 c
  • barbecue sauce - 1/4 c
  • water - 1 c

How to make coney island hot dogs:

Brown meat; add remaining ingredients except hot dogs and buns. Simmer until thick, about 1 hour. Cook hot dogs. Place in buns; top with hot sauce. Makes about 3 cups sauce, enough for 12 to 16 dogs.

For faster preparation, use only 1/2 cup water. Simmer 15 minutes.
