  • granulated sugar - 1 c
  • cider vinegar - 1 c
  • salt and pepper to taste - 1 item
  • large onions, diced - 2 item
  • large celery stalks, diced - 6 item
  • baking potatoes, peeled - 5 lb
  • liquid salad or vegetable oil - 1 c

How to make cold german potato salad:

Boil potatoes until just done. Drain water. Slice potatoes while warm, handling carefully. Mix all other ingredients well (until sugar is dissolved); pour over warm potatoes. Stir carefully. Store in refrigerator overnight.

The next morning, drain all excess liquid and discard. Carefully mix mayonnaise (not salad dressing) into salad. Refrigerate and serve cold. Serves 8.
