Ingredients/Components
- softened butter or margarine - 1/2 c
- sugar - 1 c
- egg yolks - 2 item
- sifted flour
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- baking powder - 2 tsp
- stiffly beaten egg whites - 2 item
- milk - 1/2 c
- brown sugar
- flour - 2 Tbsp
- cinnamon - 2 tsp
- melted butter - 2 3
- broken nuts - 1/2 1
How to make coffee cake:
Topper:3/4 to 1 c. brown sugar2 Tbsp. flour2 tsp. cinnamon2 to 3 Tbsp. melted butter1/2 to 1 c. broken nuts Combine Topper ingredients together.Baking Temperature: 350°. Baking Time: 30 minutes.
Cream butter and sugar; beat in egg yolks. Mix dry ingredients and add alternately with milk to creamed mixture, beating after each addition. Fold in egg whites. Spread about half of the batter in 9 x 9-inch pan. Sprinkle on about 2/3 of the Topper. Add rest of batter and top with rest of Topper. Can be made ahead, wrapped and stored in freezer.
Variation: Omit nuts in Topper.
