  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • flour - 2 Tbsp
  • butter - 1/2 c
  • baking powder - 1 tsp
  • shredded coconut - 1 c
  • sifted flour - 1 c
  • brown sugar, firmly packed - 1/2 c
  • chopped walnuts or pecans - 1 c
  • Layer #2:2 eggs, well beaten
  • Karo syrup Red Label - 1/2 c

How to make coconut chews:

Layer #2:2 eggs, well beaten1/2 c. brown sugar, firmly packed1/2 c. Karo syrup (Red Label)1 tsp. vanilla2 Tbsp. flour1 tsp. baking powder1 tsp. salt1 c. shredded coconut1 c. chopped walnuts or pecans Layer #1: Blend sugar and butter; stir in flour. Pat out mixture into bottom of ungreased pan (9 x 9 x 2-inch). Bake at 350° for 10 minutes.

Layer #2: Blend eggs and brown sugar. Stir in Karo syrup and vanilla. Add flour, baking powder and salt, mixing well. Stir in coconut and nuts and spread over bottom layer. Return to oven and bake for 25 minutes. Cool in pan; cut into squares.
