Ingredients/Components
- beef stew meat - 2 lb
- oil - 1 2
- large onion, chopped - 1 item
- can tomatoes, chopped or 1 large can tomato juice - 1 oz
- water - 1 2
- bouillon cubes - 3 item
- quick-cook tapioca - 5 Tbsp
- clove garlic, minced - 1 item
- dried parsley - 1 Tbsp
- salt - 1 tsp
- pepper - 1/4 tsp
- bay leaf - 1 item
- medium carrots, cut up - 6 item
- medium potatoes, cubed - 3 item
- cut up celery - 1 c
How to make classic beef stew:
In a Dutch oven, brown beef, half at a time, in oil. Drain. Return meat to pan and add onion, tomatoes or juice, water, bouillon, tapioca, garlic, parsley, salt, pepper and bay leaf. Bring to a boil, then bake, covered, at 350° for 1 1/2 hours. Stir in vegetables. Cover; continue baking for 1 hour, until tender.Or brown meat in pressure cooker. Add all but vegetables and pressure cook 10 minutes. Cool at once. Add vegetables and pressure cook 5 minutes more.
