Ingredients/Components

  • salt - 1 Tbsp
  • salad oil - 2 Tbsp
  • basil - 1/4 tsp
  • garlic clove, minced - 1 item
  • chopped parsley - 1/4 c
  • large onion, chopped - 1 item
  • can tomatoes - 1 oz
  • medium green pepper, chopped - 1 item
  • shrimp, shelled - 1 lb
  • table wine - 1/2 c
  • hard shelled clams
  • bass or other fish, cut into chunks
  • crab imitation okay, cut into chunks

How to make cioppino:

Forty-five minutes before serving: In hot oil, cook onion, pepper and garlic until tender. Add tomatoes plus liquid, wine, parsley, salt and basil; heat to boiling. Reduce heat to low; cover and simmer 15 minutes.

Increase heat to medium-high. Still in shells, add clams. Cook 10 minutes; stir. Add fish, shrimp and crab; cook another 5 minutes and serve over hot rice or noodles.
