Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 2 c
  • cinnamon - 1 tsp
  • eggs - 2 item
  • vanilla extract - 1 tsp
  • salt - 1/4 tsp
  • stick margarine - 1 item
  • evaporated milk - 8 Tbsp
  • water - 1 c
  • cocoa - 4 Tbsp
  • baking soda - 1 tsp
  • plain flour - 2 c
  • chopped pecans or walnuts - 3/4 1
  • shortening Crisco - 1/2 c
  • box xxxx sugar - 1 item
  • buttermilk or sweet milk with 1/2 tsp - 1/2 c
  • In saucepan, combine cocoa, margarine, shortening and water

How to make cinnamon chocolate cake:

Sift together in bowl the flour, sugar, salt and cinnamon. In saucepan, combine cocoa, margarine, shortening and water. Bring to a rapid boil and pour over flour mixture. Mix as soon as removed from heat. Mix well, then add eggs one at a time and beat well. Add buttermilk and baking soda. Bake in greased and floured pan as follows:

16 x 11-inch - 20 minutes at 400°.

15 1/2 x 10 1/2-inch pan - 22 minutes at 400°.

17 x 11-inch cookie sheet - 20 to 25 minutes at 350°.

While cake is baking, make frosting.Frosting:1 stick margarine8 Tbsp. evaporated milk5 Tbsp. cocoa1 box xxxx sugar1 tsp. vanilla extract3/4 to 1 c. chopped pecans or walnuts Heat margarine, evaporated milk and cocoa until margarine is melted. Remove from heat and blend in xxxx sugar, vanilla extract and nuts. Spread on cake while cake is warm. Batter will be quite thin.
