  • sugar - 1/3 c
  • cinnamon - 1 tsp
  • vanilla - 1/2 tsp
  • milk - 2 c
  • salt - 1/4 tsp
  • egg yolks - 2 item
  • large eggs - 3 item
  • butter, melted - 2 Tbsp
  • ground nutmeg - 1/4 tsp
  • orange rind
  • peeled, sliced tart apples - 2 c
  • cubed 1/2-inch firm-textured dry bread - 2 c
  • Orange Sauce - 1 item
  • Add bread; mix well

How to make cinnamon apple bread pudding:

In medium bowl blend eggs, sugar, milk, salt, nutmeg, cinnamon, 1 tablespoon of butter and vanilla. Add bread; mix well. Pour into a buttered 1 1/2-quart casserole. Dip apple slices in remaining 1 tablespoon butter and arrange slices on top. Set casserole in a larger dish and place in a preheated 350° oven. Pour enough hot water in pan to come up 3/4 inch. Bake, uncovered, about 1 hour. Serve warm with Orange Sauce.Orange Sauce:1 c. milk2 egg yolks3 Tbsp. sugar1 1/2 tsp. orange rind In saucepan heat milk until tiny bubbles appear. In double boiler, whisk egg yolks. Gradually whisk in the hot milk. Add sugar and orange rind. Stir constantly over simmering water until thickened, 2 to 3 minutes.
