Chuck wagon stew
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1 tsp
- lean beef, cut into 1-inch cubes - 2 lb
- pepper - 1/4 tsp
- ground thyme - 1/4 tsp
- ripe tomatoes, peeled and chopped - 2 item
- small carrots, sliced - 6 item
- stalks celery, chopped - 3 item
- flour - 1/4 c
- melted Crisco - 2 Tbsp
- salt - 2 tsp
- chili powder - 1 tsp
- bay leaf - 1 item
- can beef broth - 1 1/2
- potatoes, cut up - 6 item
- medium onion, chopped - 1 item
- frozen peas - 1 c
How to make chuck wagon stew:
Combine sugar and flour. Coat beef with flour mixture. Brown in hot shortening. Add seasonings, tomatoes and broth to meat. Cover and simmer 1 1/2 hours or until meat is almost tender. Stir in vegetables, except peas. Cover and cook about 15 minRecipe categories: Main dish, Beef, Stew.
