Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 1 tsp
  • lean beef, cut into 1-inch cubes - 2 lb
  • pepper - 1/4 tsp
  • ground thyme - 1/4 tsp
  • ripe tomatoes, peeled and chopped - 2 item
  • small carrots, sliced - 6 item
  • stalks celery, chopped - 3 item
  • flour - 1/4 c
  • melted Crisco - 2 Tbsp
  • salt - 2 tsp
  • chili powder - 1 tsp
  • bay leaf - 1 item
  • can beef broth - 1 1/2
  • potatoes, cut up - 6 item
  • medium onion, chopped - 1 item
  • frozen peas - 1 c

How to make chuck wagon stew:

Combine sugar and flour. Coat beef with flour mixture. Brown in hot shortening. Add seasonings, tomatoes and broth to meat. Cover and simmer 1 1/2 hours or until meat is almost tender. Stir in vegetables, except peas. Cover and cook about 15 min
