Chow mein
Ingredients/Components
- chicken or shrimp - 3 4
- celery, coarsely chopped - 4 c
- onion, chopped - 2 c
- cans bean sprouts, drained and reserve liquid - 2 item
- cans bamboo shoots, drain and reserve liquid - 2 item
- cans water chestnuts, drain and reserve liquid - 2 item
- cornstarch - 1/2 c
- small cans mushrooms optional - 2 item
- chow mein noodles optional - 1 item
- soy sauce optional - 1 item
How to make chow mein:
Saut chicken (or shrimp) until done. Remove form pan and saut celery and onion. Add bean sprouts, bamboo shoots, water chestnuts and drained mushrooms (if desired). When celery and onions are half-tender, add liquid from vegetables to cornstarch. Blend and pour in pan. Return chicken (or shrimp) to pan and cook to desired consistency (this doesn't take long). Serve with rice and chow mein noodles, if desired. Also, soy sauce is good.This recipe is family sized. It may be halved to serve 4 adults.
