Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 6 c
- water - 2 c
- vinegar - 4 c
- celery seed - 2 Tbsp
- cabbage - 4 c
- mustard seed - 2 Tbsp
- green peppers - 18 item
- turmeric - 1/2 tsp
- onions - 4 c
- green tomatoes - 10 item
- salt not iodized - 1/2 c
- pickling spice, wrapped in cheesecloth - 2 Tbsp
How to make chow chow:
Grind the following ingredients: onions, cabbage, green tomatoes and green peppers. Pour salt over mixture and let stand 2 hours.Mix next 6 ingredients. Heat this mixture. While heating, wash ground ingredients with cool water, using a colander.
Add all together and simmer 3 to 5 minutes with pickling spice. Put in hot jars and seal.
