Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 6 c
  • salt - 1/2 c
  • water - 2 c
  • cider vinegar - 3 c
  • onions, chopped - 4 c
  • celery seed - 1 Tbsp
  • mustard seed - 2 Tbsp
  • green peppers - 6 item
  • turmeric - 1-1/2 tsp
  • medium cabbage - 1 item
  • red peppers - 6 item
  • green tomatoes - 12 item

How to make chow chow:

Chop vegetables (coarse). Sprinkle with salt. Let stand over night. Drain and rinse. Combine remaining ingredients. Pour over vegetable mixture. Heat to boil. Simmer 3 minutes. Fill hot sterilized jars and seal. Yield: about 8 pints.
