Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 3 c
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • flour - 3 c
  • vanilla flavoring - 2 tsp
  • cocoa - 4 Tbsp
  • baking powder - 1/2 tsp
  • sticks butter room temperature - 2 item
  • eggs room temperature - 5 item
  • milk room temperature - 1 c
  • shortening room temperature - 1/2 c

How to make chocolate pound cake:

Cream butter, shortening and sugar well. Add eggs, one at a time, and blend. Sift together flour, cocoa, salt and baking powder. Add flour and milk alternately, starting and ending with flour. Add flavoring. Bake in large 10-inch tube pan, well-greased and floured. Bake at 315° for 1 hour and 15 minutes. Let cool 10 minutes in pan and cool on rack for 5 minutes. Then turn out onto plate. Leave out the cocoa and add a little more flour if you want a plain cake.
