Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1 c
- vanilla - 1/2 tsp
- milk - 2 c
- flour - 1/3 c
- butter - 1 Tbsp
- egg yolks - 3 item
- cocoa - 1/4 c
- pinch of salt - 1 item
- cream of tartar - 1/4 tsp
- Meringue:3 egg whites
How to make chocolate pie:
Meringue:3 egg whites1/4 tsp. cream of tartar1/2 tsp. vanilla1/4 c. sugar Beat egg yolks and add to milk. Sift sugar, flour, cocoa and salt and place in top of double boiler. Stir 1/3 cup of milk and egg mixture into dry ingredients to form a smooth paste, then stir in remaining ingredients. Cook until thick; add butter and vanilla. Cool and pour into baked pie shell. Top with meringue.Beat egg whites at medium speed about 1 minute with cream of tartar and vanilla; add sugar a little at a time and beat until peaks form and sugar is dissolved. Spread on pie and seal edges. Brown at 325° for 12 to 15 minutes.
