  • milk - 1/3 c
  • vanilla extract - 1 tsp
  • butter or margarine - 1 c
  • water - 1 c
  • cocoa - 1/4 c
  • buttermilk - 1/2 c
  • baking soda - 1 tsp
  • all-purpose flour - 2 c
  • large eggs - 2 item
  • ground cinnamon - 1 tsp
  • Combine butter and water in a large saucepan; bring to a boil

How to make chocolate peppermint cake:

Combine first 4 ingredients and set aside. Combine butter and water in a large saucepan; bring to a boil. Remove from heat; stir in soda. Add flour mixture, stirring well. Stir in eggs, buttermilk and vanilla extract. Spoon into a greased and floured 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan. Bake at 350° for 30 minutes. Top with peppermint patties and bake 2 additional minutes. Gently spread melted candy over cake. Spread Chocolate Frosting over top.Chocolate Frosting:1/2 c. butter or margarine1/3 c. milk1 (16 oz.) pkg. powdered sugar, sifted1/4 c. cocoa1 tsp. vanilla extract Combine butter and milk in a saucepan. Bring mixture to a boil; remove from heat. Combine sifted powdered sugar and cocoa; add to butter mixture. Add vanilla, stirring until smooth.
