Chocolate layer bars



  • sugar
  • eggs - 2 item
  • pkg - 1 oz
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • butter - 1 c
  • almond extract - 1/2 tsp
  • baking powder - 1 tsp
  • unsifted flour - 3 c
  • chopped walnuts - 1 c
  • 12 oz - 2 c
  • 5 - 2/3 c

How to make chocolate layer bars:

Combine chocolate chips, cream cheese and evaporated milk in a medium pan. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until chips are melted and mixture is smooth. Remove from heat. Stir in walnuts and 1/2 teaspoon almond extract. Blend well; set aside. Combine remaining ingredients in a large bowl; blend until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Press half of crumb mixture in a greased 13 x 9-inch pan; spread with chocolate mixture. Sprinkle the rest of the crumbs over filling. Bake at 375° for 35 to 40 minutes, until golden brown. Cool; cut into bars. Makes about 3 dozen.
