Chocolate fudge cake



  • sugar - 1 c
  • vanilla - 1/2 tsp
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • water - 3/4 c
  • baking soda - 1/2 tsp
  • egg - 1 item
  • shortening - 1/3 c
  • semi-sweet chocolate pieces - 1/2 c
  • sifted all-purpose flour
  • walnut halves - 9 item
  • sq - 2 oz

How to make chocolate fudge cake:

Cream shortening and sugar until fluffy. Blend in vanilla and cooled chocolate. Add egg, well beaten. Stir together flour, baking powder and salt; add to creamed mixture alternately with water, beating after each addition. Spread batter in greased and lightly floured 9 x 9 x 2-inch pan. Sprinkle with chocolate pieces. Arrange walnut halves over top. Bake at 350° about 30 minutes or until cake springs back when touched in center. Cool in pan.
