  • sugar - 1 c
  • eggs - 2 item
  • salt - 1/4 tsp
  • flour
  • cocoa - 2 tsp
  • baking soda - 1 tsp
  • chocolate chips
  • boiling water
  • shortening - 3/4 c
  • dates, cut - 1 c
  • cut walnuts - 1 item

How to make chocolate chip cake:

Put dates, boiling water and baking soda together and let cool. Mix shortening, sugar, salt, cocoa, eggs and flour and add the cooled date mixture. Pour into an 8 1/2 x 13-inch baking pan (greased). Sprinkle chocolate chips, sugar and cut walnuts together on top. Bake for 45 minutes at 350°.
