  • sugar - 2 c

  • flour - 2 c
  • stick margarine - 1/4 item
  • evaporated milk - 1/2 c
  • soda
  • cocoa - 2/3 c
  • baking powder - 1/2 tsp
  • shortening - 3/4 c
  • powdered sugar

How to make chocolate cake:

Frosting:1 (6 oz.) pkg. semi-sweet chocolate bits1/4 stick margarine1 1/2 c. powdered sugar1/2 c. evaporated milk Cream shortening and sugar together. Add cocoa and blend well. Add flour and salt and blend well. Then add 3/4 cup of the milk and beat thoroughly for 2 minutes. Mix in soda and baking powder. Then add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add remaining milk and vanilla and beat thoroughly. Pour into two 9-inch cake pans and bake at 350° for approximately 30 to 35 minutes or until cake springs back when touched in center.

To make frosting, melt chocolate bits and margarine in top of double boiler. When melted, pour into mixing bowl and blend in powdered sugar and evaporated milk. If desired, 1 teaspoon vanilla may be added to evaporated milk. Let frosting cool thoroughly prior to icing cake.
