  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • flour - 2 c
  • soda - 2 tsp
  • cocoa
  • baking powder - 1/4 tsp
  • boiling water - 1 c
  • shortening - 1/2 c
  • white sugar - 2 c
  • sour milk - 1/2 c

How to make chocolate cake:

Mix sugar, eggs and shortening well. Sift cocoa, flour, soda, baking powder and salt. Add dry ingredients alternately with liquids until all is mixed well. Bake in 13 x 9-inch pan or 2 round pans. Bake approximately 35 minutes at 350°.
