  • sugar - 2 c
  • eggs - 2 item
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • flour
  • water - 6 Tbsp
  • soda - 1 tsp
  • cocoa - 1/2 c
  • buttermilk - 1 c
  • shortening - 1 c
  • egg whites - 2 item
  • light corn syrup - 2 Tbsp
  • coffee - 1 c
  • Stir in buttermilk

How to make chocolate cake:

Cream shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla. Stir in buttermilk. Sift together and stir in flour, salt and cocoa. Bring coffee to boil. Add soda at once. Pour over batter while still fizzing. Turn into greased and floured 9 x 13-inch pan and bake 25 minutes at 350°.Seven Minute Icing:1 1/2 c. sugar6 Tbsp. water2 egg whites2 Tbsp. light corn syrup1/8 tsp. salt1 tsp. vanilla Beat all ingredients except vanilla in double boiler with electric mixer for 7 minutes. Remove from heat. Add vanilla.
