- vanilla - 1 tsp
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- flour
- butter - 1/2 c
- cocoa - 1/2 c
- buttermilk - 1 c
- baking soda
- boiling water - 1/2 c
- shortening - 2/3 c
- powdered sugar - 3 c
- Grease and flour two 9-inch layer cake pans or one 9 x 13-inch pan
How to make chocolate buttermilk cake:
Preheat oven to 350°. Grease and flour two 9-inch layer cake pans or one 9 x 13-inch pan. Cream sugar and shortening together until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition; add vanilla. Sift together flour, baking soda and salt; add alternately with buttermilk. Make a heavy smooth paste of cocoa and boiling water; cool slightly and blend well. Bake 35 to 45 minutes. Frost with Chocolate Cream Cheese Frosting.Chocolate Cream Cheese Frosting:1 (3 oz.) pkg. cream cheese1/2 c. butter1 tsp. vanilla3 c. powdered sugar1/4 c. cocoa Cream butter and cream cheese together. (If too stiff, put in microwave for 30 seconds to soften.) Add vanilla, cocoa and powdered sugar; beat together until smooth and creamy.
