  • softened butter or margarine - 1 c
  • sugar - 2 c
  • cocoa - 1/2 c
  • eggs, separated - 6 item
  • sifted cake flour - 1 c
  • chopped nuts - 2 c
  • vanilla extract - 1 Tbsp
  • butter or margarine
  • box confectioners sugar - 1 oz
  • cold strong coffee - 1/2 c
  • cocoa to taste - 1/2 1
  • salt - 1/8 tsp

How to make chocolate brownie cake:

Coffee Icing:1/2 c. butter or margarine1 (16 oz.) box confectioners sugar1/2 c. cold strong coffee1/2 to 1 c. cocoa to taste1 Tbsp. vanilla extract1/8 tsp. salt Preheat oven to 350°. With electric mixer, cream butter and sugar; add cocoa and mix well. Stir in egg yolks, blending well. Beat egg whites until stiff; set aside. By hand, fold sifted flour, nuts, vanilla and egg whites into creamed mixture. Pour batter into a lightly greased 9 x 13-inch pan. Bake 35 minutes. Cool and spread with Coffee Icing.

To make icing, cream butter until lightly whipped. Gradually add confectioners sugar, coffee and cocoa. Add vanilla and salt, blending thoroughly. Spread over cake.
