  • sugar
  • milk - 1/2 c
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • butter - 2 Tbsp
  • cornstarch - 2 tsp
  • water - 3/4 c
  • cold water - 1 Tbsp
  • vinegar - 3/4 c
  • rolled oats - 3/4 c
  • paprika - 1 tsp
  • garlic powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Worcestershire sauce - 1 Tbsp
  • onion salt - 1/2 tsp
  • lean ground beef - 3/4 lb
  • finely chopped water chestnuts - 1/4 c
  • lean ground pork - 1/4 lb
  • few drops hot pepper sauce - 1 item

How to make chinese meat balls:

Sweet-Sour Sauce:1 c. sugar3/4 c. vinegar3/4 c. water1 tsp. paprika1/2 tsp. salt2 tsp. cornstarch1 Tbsp. cold water Combine all meat ball ingredients except butter. Mix thoroughly. Shape into 4 dozen small balls. Brown well in butter. Drain on absorbent paper towel. Add to hot Sweet-Sour Sauce.

Sauce: Combine first 5 ingredients. Cook 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Blend cornstarch and water. Add to hot mixture. Cook, stirring, until mixture thickens slightly. Simmer 30 minutes.

Can be served over rice or used as an appetizer.
