Ingredients/Components

  • olive oil - 5 Tbsp
  • large onions - 2 item
  • cloves garlic - 4 item
  • ground beef
  • tomato sauce - 3 c
  • water - 1 c
  • celery seed - 3/4 tsp
  • cayenne - 1/4 tsp
  • ground cumin seed
  • bay leaves - 2 item
  • chili powder - 3 Tbsp
  • salt - 3 tsp
  • cans kidney beans - 2 oz

How to make chili con carne:

Heat oil in skillet. Add onion and garlic. Saute until golden. Add meat and brown. Transfer the meat mixture to a large saucepan and add remaining ingredients (except beans). Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, until sauce is thick as desired (about 4 hours). Add 2 cans kidney beans before serving. Cook them for 2 hours in the simmering sauce.
