Ingredients/Components

  • salt - 1 tsp
  • chopped onion - 1/2 c
  • chili powder - 2 tsp
  • bay leaf - 1 item
  • can tomato sauce - 1 oz
  • dash of paprika - 1 item
  • lean ground beef - 1 lb
  • dash of cayenne - 1 item
  • chopped bell pepper - 1/2 c
  • cans kidney beans, drained - 2 item
  • can tomatoes, chopped - 1 item

How to make chili con carne:

Cook ground beef, onion and bell pepper until meat is lightly browned and vegetables are tender. Drain. Stir in tomatoes, beans, tomato sauce, salt, chili powder and bay leaf. Cover and simmer for 1 hour. Discard bay leaf. Add additional water, if needed. Yield: 6 (1 cup) servings (3 meats, 2 breads, 1 vegetable and 1/2 fat).
