Chicken and dumplings



  • milk - 1/2 c
  • butter - 1 Tbsp
  • shortening - 1/4 c
  • self-rising flour
  • pepper to taste - 1 item
  • chicken or chicken breasts - 1 item

How to make chicken and dumplings:

Dumplings2 c. self-rising flour1/4 c. shortening3/4 c. milk Boil chicken in salted water. Pull chicken from bones. Put back into chicken broth. Add butter, milk and pepper to a broth.

Make dumplings with flour. Mix shortening in flour and add milk. Roll into a ball and chill. After the dough is chilled, roll out and cut into small squares. Have broth boiling and drop squares into hot broth. Cook until done, without stirring. If gravy in dumplings is not thick enough, stir in a paste of flour and water.
