Chicken and dumplings
Ingredients/Components
- chicken - 1 (2
- onion - 1 item
- can cream of chicken soup - 1 item
- can chicken broth - 1 item
- stick butter - 1/2 item
- Add to chicken broth the soup and butter
- salt - 1 tsp
- baking powder - 1/2 tsp
- shortening - 1 Tbsp
- egg - 1 item
- water - 3/4 c
How to make chicken and dumplings:
Boil chicken with onion until tender; remove to cool. Add to chicken broth the soup and butter. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Bring to a rolling boil and add dumpling squares one at a time.Dumplings:2 c. plain flour1 tsp. salt1/2 tsp. baking powder1 Tbsp. shortening1 egg3/4 c. water Mix flour, baking powder and salt. Cut shortening into flour. Add 3/4 cup of water and well beaten egg to flour mixture. If needed, add more water to make soft dough. Roll out thin on a floured cloth; cut into squares. These squares can be made and put in the freezer by layering dough squares in between wax paper.
