Chicken and dumplings
Ingredients/Components
- milk - 1 c
- salt - 1/8 tsp
- flour - 3 c
- egg - 1 item
- pepper - 1/8 tsp
- chicken bouillon cubes - 1 item
- large chicken - 1 item
How to make chicken and dumplings:
Cover chicken with water in large roasting pan. Season with salt, pepper and 2 bouillon cubes for every cup of water used to cover chicken. Bake in oven at 400° for 3 1/2 hours. Remove chicken from broth; cool and bone out.Mix last 5 ingredients together in a large bowl. Mix with a fork. Do not overwork dough. Roll out on floured surface. Cut into strips of your choosing. Bring broth to a boil on top of stove and slowly add cut dumplings. Boil on high, uncovered, for 10 minutes. Then cover and simmer 15 more minutes. You may add 1 cup of milk for a thicker broth. Mix in cut up chicken. Turn off; cover up and let them set. Better to cook one day and serve the next.
