  • sugar - 1 c
  • eggs - 2 item
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • milk - 2 Tbsp
  • butter or margarine - 3/4 c
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • chopped nuts - 1 c
  • flour
  • soda - 1/2 tsp
  • chopped dates - 1 c
  • baking powder - 1 tsp
  • crushed cornflakes
  • maraschino cherries, chopped - 1/3 c

How to make cherry winks:

Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs, milk and vanilla. Blend in dry ingredients gradually; mix thoroughly. Add chopped nuts, dates and cherries. Mix well. Shape dough into balls, using 1 teaspoon of dough. Roll in crushed cornflakes. Place on greased cookie sheet. Top each cookie with 1/4 of a maraschino cherry. Bake at 375° for 10 to 12 minutes.
